Two rare species of ant have been discovered in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. These ants of Osteria species have been discovered by a team of researchers led by Professor Himender Bharti of Punjab University Patiala.
It has been named Osseria Joshi in honor of Professor Amitabh Joshi, a zoologist from the Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research-JNCAR, an autonomous institute of science and technology, Government of India. This discovery has been published in the journal Jukez.
