GURUGRAM: Police have busted a gang of robbers and arrested four of its members in Sector 14, over a week after an employee of a private company was robbed of Rs 10 lakh near Atul Kataria Chowk. The gang specialised in robbing cash collection agents who worked for private companies, police said.
In the last few months, the gang had executed around four robberies across Delhi-NCR. It used to monitor bank branches and target those who carried large amounts of cash on a regular basis.
The four men arrested on Thursday have been identified as Shravan Kumar (34) from Hisar, Sandeep (28) from Panipat, Suresh (38) from Bahadurgarh and Surender (35) from Bahadurgarh.
Inspector Narender Chouhan, in-charge of the crime unit of Sector 17, said the men have admitted to robbing a youth of Rs 4 lakh in Sector 14 on September 28 last year. They had also snatched Rs 8.5 lakh from a person in Sector 14 recently and Rs 16 lakh in Delhi’s Mahipalpur, police said.
“The gang was active for the last one year and target only employees of traders and private companies who are authorised to collect and deposit cash in banks,” ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan. Such agents generally move without any security, becoming easy targets for the gang, he added.
On January 11, three men had snatched a bag with Rs 10 lakh in cash and other valuables at gunpoint from an executive of a private company near Atul Kataria Chowk.
