PM Modi visits Netaji Bhawan in Kolkata

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Netaji Bhawan in Kolkata, West Bengal, on the occasion of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi distributed land 'patta' or allotment certificates to over one lakh landless indigenous people in Assam's Sivasagar district, under a special programme of the state government. Modi said lakhs of adivasis, indigenous Assamese families were deprived of their land ownership rights even decaded after independence, adding that provision of land rights to indigenous people of Assam will guarantee their pride, freedom and protection. Talking about the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive in the country, the Prime Minister reinstated the need to take precautions and also asked the people to get  two complete doses of the vaccination when their turn arrives.

In Assam too, the Prime Minister also paid tributes to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary. Bose was born on this day in 1897. The government has decided to observe January 23 as "Parakram Diwas" to commemorate his birth anniversary. "The entire country is celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, today. The country has decided to celebrate this day as 'Prakram Diwas'. His life gives us inspiration even today," he said.

This was his first visit to the state in the run-up to the Assembly elections likely in April. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the state on Sunday.

Meanwhile on Friday, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) took out torchlight processions pressing for their demands, including scrapping of the Citizenship Amendment Act, days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah set foot in the state.

AASU will stage protests in all district and sub-divisional headquarters by covering their faces with black cloth during Modi's visit on Saturday, and observe 'Black Day' on January 24 by burning copies of the CAA during the home minister's visit.
