GURUGRAM: There was a rise in the turnout of healthcare workers for Covid-19 vaccination in Gurugram on Friday. Around 91% of those listed for the injection turned up at 34 session sites set up in 26 private hospitals — a positive turn from the slightly dismal attendance in the last round.
Altogether 3,278 people of the 3,600 scheduled lined up to get their first dose of the Covid vaccine.

Gurugram had witnessed a turnout of 101% on the first day of inoculation on January 16 when 2,281 health workers received the jabs. But the figure had dropped to 60% on Monday, with only 608 recipients turning up. So far, the city has covered 10,768 recipients and met 29% of its total target of 37,000.
Of the 34 session sites on Friday, Covishield was administered to 3,138 recipients at 32 sites. The remaining four sites administered Covaxin to 140 recipients. Notably, two adverse events were reported in the city.
The fourth day of inoculation saw a slow start in the morning but later picked up the pace. Till 1pm, the turnout was around 50%, which gradually increased in most of the centres. “The response is remarkable. We vaccinated 459 recipients today,” said a senior doctor at Artemis Hospital in Gurugram.
“After nearly a year of uncertainties and taking loads of safety measures, I managed to not get infected by Covid-19 but the fear remained. Today, I got my first vaccine shot. I had no problems after the vaccination. But there certainly is a ray of hope of being protected and the confidence to carry on with my duties as a doctor,” said Dr Soumiya Mudgal, consultant, Max Hospital, Gurugram.
Some of the health workers claimed to believe that things will go back to normal soon. “I got the jab but I will continue to follow Covid protocols for the next 44 days. This is a positive move. With the launch of the vaccine, I hope things will soon get back to normal,” said Subhash Chandra, engineering wing, Fortis Hospital, Gurugram.
The health department said positive counselling is the reason for the rise in the number of recipients who went to the session sites to get their shots. Gurugram’s chief medical officer Virender Yadav said, “We could manage to see a 91% turnout on the fourth day of the vaccination drive. We are planning to set up more than 70 session sites on Saturday as well as Sunday.”
The number of session sites had gone up from six on Saturday to 45 on Monday. On Thursday too, the initial plan was to have 45 sites but nine more were added later to accommodate the health workers who had missed the vaccination drive on Monday.
