Yavatmal: Former BJP MLA from Arni, Raju Todsam, was on Thursday sent to Yavatmal Central Jail after additional sessions judge of Pandharkawda PB Naikwad upheld his conviction on charges of assaulting an MSEDCL staffer and obstructing government work in 2013.
Todsam was MLA representing Arni-Pandharkawda assembly segment when the offence was registered against him after he had manhandled MSEDCL assistant accountant Vilas Aakot at Pandharkawda office over excess energy bill of one of his supporters.
A complaint was lodged with Pandharkawda police who had booked Todsam under sections 294, 352, 353 and 507 of IPC. After investigation, the police filed a charge sheet before the JMFC court in Pandharkawda.
During the trial, 10 witnesses were examined. On finding Todsam guilty, the court had, on November 27, 2015, sentenced him to undergo simple imprisonment for three months and slapped a fine of Rs10,000.
Todsam had challenged the JMFC court order before the additional sessions judge, who upheld the JMFC court order on January 21.
