Student held hostage for four days rescued; three arrested

Gaurav Haldar
GREATER NOIDA: A student of Ayurvedic medicine who was allegedly honey-trapped and held hostage in Delhi for nearly four days by a gang of four, including two Ayurvedic doctors, has been rescued by a joint team of the UP special task force (STF) and the Gonda police.
Police said Gaurav Haldar, an Ayurveda student of SCPM College in Gonda, was first honey-trapped by a woman doctor, identified as Dr Preeti Mehra, working with the mastermind of the gang, Dr Abhishek Singh, at a Delhi hospital. Originally a resident of Gonda, Dr Abhishek has been staying at a DDA flat in Delhi’s Bakkarwala. The other two accused have been identified as Rajasthan native Nitesh and Mohit from Gonda.
In fact, it was Dr Abhishek who had put Dr Preeti in touch with Gaurav, and when the latter started showing interest in the woman doctor after telephonic conversation of two-three days, the gang abducted him and brought him to Delhi, where he was kept confined to a flat for four days.
Dr Abhishek, police said, chose his targets through his cousin Rohit.
SSP of STF Shailendra Pandey said, “After chatting over the phone for two-three days, Preeti called Gaurav for a meeting in Gonda. The gang members left for Gonda on January 17. After reaching Gonda the next morning, Preeti took a phone from a commuter and called Gaurav. When Gaurav arrived, he was abducted by the trio and Dr Abhishek administered a sedative injection upon him.”
Gaurav was subsequently brought to Delhi and kept at Dr Abhishek’s flat in Delhi and given sedative injections intermittently, the SSP said. “Nitesh and Rohit later made calls to Gaurav’s father Nikhil demanding Rs 70 lakh as ransom. They gave an ultimatum till January 22 for the ransom to be paid but the family informed police.”
