KURUKSHETRA: Haryana Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) chief Gurnam Singh Charuni on Saturday urged the state farmers not to oppose any ministers or leaders at Republic Day events.
Recently, All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) associated farmers in Rohtak had announced that they would not hesitate from opposing the presence of any MLAs or ministers of Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) or Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Republic Day event venues.
AIKS Rohtak district president Preet Singh had said, "We have told the DC and the SSP that any district administration official – be it a peon or an IAS officer – can hoist the flag on January 26, but we will not allow any minister or MLA of coalition regime in the state to hoist the flag".
Ambala range inspector general of police (IGP) Y Puran Kumar confirmed that following such announcements by farm unions and apprehension of the disturbance in the Republic Day event, the district administrations recently shifted the event venues in Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar districts.
In Kurukshetra, the event was earlier scheduled to be organised at the grain market, Thanesar, but now it has been shifted to a safer place to the sports ground on the campus of Kurukshetra University.
Similarly, in Yamunanagar, the event was earlier scheduled to be organised at the Sports Complex, Tejli, but it has been shifted to the ground of police lines on Ambala road in Jagadhri.
Gurnam Singh Charuni on Saturday morning released a video, in which he said, "January 26 has come close and I want to give a message as we are receiving calls from several places and people have confusion about opposing Republic Day events where leaders and ministers are hoisting the flags. I want to urge that no minister or leader should be opposed in Haryana on January 26 as it is a national festival. Opposing this could give a wrong message. Therefore, I urge that if ministers or leaders come to hoist flag anywhere in Haryana, then they should not be opposed. They should be opposed if they organise any other events in the villages. I again urge that none of our brothers should oppose any leaders or ministers on January 26 from hoisting flags in any blocks or districts of Haryana".
