Railway Budget 2021: Indian Railways to focus on new bullet train networks in coming years?

By Times of India

Railway Budget 2021 may throw more light on Indian Railways plan to introduce new bullet train networks in the coming years. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2021 on February 1.

Railway Budget 2021 will be a part of the Union Budget. Recently, Indian Railways released its draft National Rail Plan 2024 which proposed almost 8,000 kilometres of bullet train network across the country by 2051.

At present, India’s maiden high-speed rail network is under construction between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Facing land acquisition hurdles, particularly in Maharashtra, the bullet train network may be made operational only in Gujarat to begin with. Last year, FM Sitharaman had announced in her Budget speech that the high-speed train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad would be “actively pursued” by Indian Railways.
