On the other hand, Covid-19 Campaigns are also in hype all over social media trying to motivate and educate about the symptoms and self-hygiene everyone should take care of during this pandemic situation.
Taking the benefit of the current lockdown situation, the cybercriminals are attracting the verified Facebook and Instagram users in the disguise of spreading awareness about Novel Coronavirus, offering them $1500 per week via a global email fraud.
Chitransh Jain, who provides technical support to many celebs including Guru Randhawa, Raftar, Gaana.Com, etc this is an ongoing email scam and several verified Instagram and Facebook users are falling for it.
According to the sources, the Russian hackers randomly send emails to verified celebrities stating, “We want to promote the Covid-19 Campaigns through your Social Media Page and for that we are going to pay you $1500 per week. The payment will be advance pay. All that you have to do is post 1 ad link on your page daily on your Facebook and Instagram page.” It is also mentioned that celebrities can close the deal whenever they want to.
Well, it is quite often that no one would rather decline the offer when you are getting hugely paid to do nothing and that too in advance. As soon as the celebrity gives a green signal; the hackers send them a link to approve on his/her social media page which is certainly a phishing link. A celebrity in greed clicks on the link and approve it. As soon as they do this, BOOM!! Their verified page gets hacked replacing the business owner’s name with the hackers’ name.
According to Digital Marketing Expert, Chitransh Jain,  who provides technical support to many celebs including Guru Randhawa, Raftar, Gaana.Com, etc this is an ongoing email scam and several verified Instagram and Facebook users are falling for it.
He adds, “I think Facebook and Instagram, apart from temporarily banning ads related to coronavirus must also address this email fraud that is happening. But the verified users should also take necessary precautions while handling their respective social media pages.”
While clicking any link, the users always have to check the Source and URL of the link first. The scams are spreading faster and the cybercriminals are more active during the current pandemic situation.”
After getting hacked, the verified user reaches to Facebook for help, but unfortunately, the user gets NO help from the FB team saying, “We are sorry, we can only support on the managed partners page.”
The situation is messed up and getting worse here in India and the users are completely devastated because of the scam. The artists eventually have to hire third-party personal to complete the task which is also a great monetary loss for the user.
