Gang involved in Muthoot Finance heist nabbed in Hyd, CM lauds TN police

Chennai, Jan 23 (UNI) Police today arrested six members
of an armed gang and another person which looted the gold
loan firm Muthoot Finance Branch at gun point at Bagalur
near Hosur in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu yesterday.
The arrests were made by special teams of the Krishnagiri
with the help of Cyberabad police on the outskirts of
Hyderabad city, within 18 hours after the daring daylight
heist took place during which 25,091 gms of gold Jewellery
and Rs 96,000 cash were looted by the gang after attacking
the branch manager, the staff members and a couple of
customers.
The stolen gold jewellery, seven firearms, and 89 live rounds
were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Tamil Nadu Chief Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami
lauded the police for swiftly arresting the culprits.
Mr Palaniswami tweeted ''one more jewel in the crown
of the Tamilnadu police, five robbers along with 25 kg
of gold worth Rs 15 crore that was robbed from Muthoot
Finance yesterday were nabbed by the cops.''
''My hearty congratulations to the Tamil Nadu police,
especially the Krishnagiri district police, for arresting
the culprits within 18 hours of the incident'', he said.
Reports received here said the gang members involved
in the dacoity were said to be from North India.
The special teams zeroed in on the culprits by tracking
their mobile phone signals.
Police said the inter-State dacoity gang was trying to
flee to Jharkhand and Bihar via Hyderabad on National
Highway 44 when they were nabbed in a joint operation
by the Krishnagiri police, Hyderabad and Cyberabad
Commissionerates of Telangana Police.
The accused, Rup Singh Baghal (22), a student, and Shankar
Singh Bayyal Baghal (36) from Adhardhal village, Jabalpur
in Madhya Pradesh, Pavan Kumar Biskarma, Bupendhar Manji
(24), and Vivek Mandal (32) of Ranchi, Jharkhand, who were
were travelling in an SUV when they were intercepted at
Tondupalli village in Ranga Reddy district, while two others
Tekram (55) and Rajeev Kumar (35), hailing from Meeruat
in Uttar Pradesh, were nabbed while they were travelling in
a container lorry near Medchal.

the world, Priya tackles the fear and disinformation surrounding
the COVID-19 pandemic that has challenged the health and
