No adverse reactions among the recipients of COVID-19 Vaccine in Andaman: Nodal Office

Port Blair, Jan 22 (UNI) Andaman and Nicobar Islands have started inoculating Health Care Workers with COVID-19 vaccines since January 16, 2021, and till now no report of any adverse reaction has been reported, claimed the Health Department of the UT.

Dr Avijit Roy, the Nodal Officer of COVID19 in Andaman told reporters in Andaman that COVISHIELD Vaccine has been provided to A&N islands and the same is being administered to Health Care Workers in the last five days, with no adverse reactions among the recipients.

“The COVISHIELD vaccine is not only safe but also gives good protection as found during various trials and is also very safe to administer. As on 21/01/2021, COVISHIELD Vaccine has been given to 1033 Health Care Workers in the Districts of North & Middle Andaman and South Andaman. Similarly, the vaccine has been given safely to the 91 defence health care personnel in Port Blair with no complications or side effect reported,” Dr Roy added.

In remote Nicobar District of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, COVID-19 vaccination will be commenced with effect from tomorrow, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Health Department of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has appealed to all Islanders not to believe any rumour or misinformation about the vaccine.

The Health Department of Andaman has also issued an advisory for public saying that getting the vaccine does not mean that the Covid-appropriate behaviour can be abandoned.
“Even after vaccination, one has to follow COVID19 protocols - wearing face masks in public, maintaining social distance and washing hands regularly etc.,” advisory issued by Andaman’s Health Department added.
