RANCHI: Incarcerated RJD president and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad’s health deteriorated suddenly on Thursday evening,but doctors said his condition has stabilized.
Senior doctors at Rims, where he is admitted while he serves prison terms in fodder scam cases, rushed to the paying ward complex soon after Lalu complained of breathlessness.
Along with hospital and jail officials, health minister Banna Gupta also reached the hospital to monitor the developments. A multi-disciplinary team of doctors ledby Dr Umesh Prasad examined Lalu. Talking to TOI, he said that Lalu had felt uneasy in the evening, but is nowstable.
Rims director Dr Kameshwar Prasad said: “Laluji is stable and we have conducted a few tests. He complained of breathlessness and has been diagnosed with mild pneumonia. We have consulted the lungs specialist from AIIMS, NewDelhi, and our team of doctors is monitoring him.”
Lalu’s RAT result returns negative
When asked if Lalu has been tested for Covid, Prasad said, “His rapid antigen test (RAT) report is negative and his samples have been sent for a confirmation through an RT-PCR test. We will receive the report on Friday.”
A slew of pathological tests for the kidneys were conducted on Lalu to check if he has developed any specific aliment.
“We have conducted various blood parameters test as he suffers from various co-morbidities, including kidney and heart ailment. The results are in upper range and he is ill,” said a doctor.
Sources at Rims confirmed Lalu’s wife and former Bihar CM Rabri Devi wanted to visit him after she got the information about his health. However, she had to cancel her plans on Lalu’s insistence.
