Lucknow cops arrest sixth shooter in Ajit Singh murder case

LUCKNOW: The sixth sharp shooter involved in the murder of history-sheeter Ajit Singh has been nabbed by a joint team of crime branch and Vibhuti Khand police on Thursday.
Sandeep Singh alias Baba of Chandauli, member of Sunil Rathi gang, was picked up from Ambedkarnagar on Wednesday night and brought to Vibhuti Khand police station where he was interrogated and arrested.
Sandeep is carrying a reward of Rs 10,000 and is accused in a 2006 murder case in Jaunpur.
“Sandeep confessed to his crime and revealed that he along with Kanhaiya aka Girdhari, Shivendra Singh aka Ankur, Rajesh Tomar aka Jai, Bunty aka Veeru aka Rajesh aka Mustafa and Ravi Yadav had opened fire on Ajit and his aide Mohar Singh on January 6,” said JCP, crime, Nilabja Chaudhary.
The shooters were planning to kill Ajit since a year due to his meteoric rise. They got a tip off when Ajit and Mohar were near Uday Tower, the JCP said.
Girdhari and Ravi, Sandeep and Shivendra , and Rajesh Tomar and Bunty were on two-wheelers in pairs while Bandhan was waiting in a car parked close to the crime scene for backup.
The shooters chased Ajit’s bulletproof SUV till he halted at Kathauta crossing. Ajit and Mohar got down and purchased some goods.
“When Ajit and Mohar were returning to the SUV parked on other side, the shooters opened fire at Ajit. Mohar retaliated and hit Rajesh,” said the officer.
Sandeep, Bunty, Shivendra and Rajesh reached Kamta bus stand where they abandoned the bikes and sat in the car and reached Alaknanda Apartment in Awadh Vihar Yojana. Sandeep took a bus to Ambedkarnagar, while Bunty, Shivendra and Bandhan took Rajesh to a flat from where one Vishal took him to a Sultanpur-based doctor.
Barring Girdhari and Sandeep, a cash reward of Rs 25,000 each has been announced on the absconding shooters.
