COIMBATORE: The Sathyamangalam police in Tamil Nadu arrested two men in the early hours of Friday for smuggling gutka -- worth Rs 10 lakh -- from Karnataka. The police seized the banned tobacco products and a truck used for transporting them.
The police conducted a vehicle check at Bannari check post around 3.30am. They stopped a truck. The truck driver told the police that the vehicle was transporting maize. However, the police checked truck and found gutka in gunny bags. The tobacco products were being smuggled from Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka.
The police arrested truck driver M Kandaraj, 38, of Kollegal and cleaner S Ramesh, 30, of the Nilgiris.
