Sharad Pawar: No action against Dhananjay Munde until rape charges proven

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar on Wednesday said that no action will be taken against his party leader Dhananjay Munde, who has been accused of rape until the charges are proven.

He also sought an investigation and demanded that the truth be revealed for everyone to know.

"Allegations should be investigated and the truth brought to the fore. If allegations are true then it becomes our responsibility to take action," he told reporters.

"It is not fair to take action unless allegations are proven," Pawar added.



BJP has been seeking Munde's resignation ever since he was accused of sexual harassment.

Taking a jibe at the Opposition party, Pawar stated that it has become a fashion for some people to level allegations against a person and seek resignation.

Munde (45), who is also the social justice minister of Maharashtra, was accused of rape by a singer named Renu Sharma. However, the politico dubbed it as blackmail and instead, revealed that he has been in a consensual relationship with the complainant's sister since 2003.

Munde said that he even has two children from the relationship, who bear his name as the parent on all legal documents.

A few days ago, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had also filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Munde for concealing facts about his relationship and children in the election documents.
