IPL 2021 retained and released players list – Australian Cricketers biggest loser: The Indian Premier League season 14th has begun on a very bad note for the top Australian cricketers. IPL teams announced their list of released and retained players ahead of the IPL 2021 auctions and as many as nine Australian players were released by their respective franchises on Wednesday. This included the likes of Australia’s white-ball captain Aaron Finch, one of the world’s top batsman Steve Smith and destructive Glenn Maxwell thus making Australia the biggest loser in terms of monetary loss after the released and retention list.

Delhi Capitals Released: Alex Carey. Retained: Marcus Stoinis, Daniel Sams (traded to RCB)

Kings XI Punjab Released: Glenn Maxwell.

Kolkata Knight Riders Released: Chris Green. Retained: Pat Cummins

Mumbai Indians Released: Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Pattinson. Retained: Chris Lynn.

Rajasthan Royals Released: Steve Smith. Retained: Andrew Tye

Royal Challengers Bangalore Released: Aaron Finch. Retained: Adam Zampa, Josh Philippe, Kane Richardson.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Released: Billy Stanlake. Retained: David Warner, Mitchell Marsh

It is worth noting that franchises went big on Australian cricketers in the IPL 2020 Auction with Rs 90.75 crore being spent on acquiring or retaining their services.

However, after the IPL 2021 retained and released players list, Australia have lost contract worth Rs 43.75 crores as Steve Smith (Rs 12.50 cr), Glenn Maxwell (Rs 10.75 cr), Nathan Coulter-Nile (Rs 8 cr), Shane Watson (Rs 4 cr), Aaron Finch (Rs 4.4 cr), Alex Carey (Rs 2.40 cr), James Pattinson (Rs 1.5 cr), Billy Stanlake (Rs 50 lakh), Chris Green (Rs 20 Lakh) have been released by their respective franchises.

Notably, Smith, Finch and Maxwell were among the biggest names to be dropped when the franchises submitted their final list of retained and released players on Wednesday, and they will learn their destination for the 2021 tournament at the IPL auction next month.
