Nagpur: Acting on an inquiry report, the Maharashtra government on Thursday suspended Bhandara district civil surgeon (CS) Dr Pramod Khandate and transferred additional CS Dr Sunita Badhe for the January 9 fire at Bhandara district general hospital which killed 10 premature babies in the Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU).
Paediatrician Dr Sunil Ambare, who was on duty when the fire broke out, has been terminated along with staff nurse Smita Duke and Shubhangi Sathawane. One Jyoti Bharsakar, position not known yet, too has been terminated. Those terminated are said to be contractual staff.
The information was given by state public health minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday.
A panel led by divisional commissioner Sanjeev Kumar had prepared the inquiry report.
