SURAT: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has rolled out a vaccination programme against the Covid-19 in the city and till now, total 2,544 frontline health workers in government as well as private hospitals in the city.
Vaccination drive is being done on three days in a week -- Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday -- in the city.
SMC is expecting that the first phase of the vaccination of healthcare workers will be completed by the first week of February and then the second dose of vaccination will begin alongside the first round of vaccination to workers.
"Till now, total 2,544 healthcare workers have been given vaccination which include 1,104 in government hospitals and 1,440 health workers in private hospitals in the city.
The vaccination programme is going smoothly and no major adverse effect has been reported so far in people who received the dose," Dr Ashish Naik, Surat municipal corporation (SMC), health, told TOI.
Vaccinations have been given to healthcare workers of SMC-run SMIMER hospital, New Civil Hospital, PP Savani Heart Institute, SD Diamond Hospital, United Green Hospital, BAPS Pramukh Swami Hospital, Kiran Hospital, Unity Hospital, Mission Hospital and Sunshine Global Hospital and workers at Urban health centers in the city.
Civic body has made vaccine storage arrangements in its 42 Urban Health Centres (UHC) in the city. The main vaccine centre is in Adajan in the city.
