Meghalaya celebrates its 49th statehood day

Meghalaya celebrates its 49th statehood day

Shillong, Jan 21 (UNI) Meghalaya’s 49th statehood day was celebrated at the capital town here today.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma called upon everyone to work together for the positive development of the state.

Mr Sangma also reminded the citizens of Meghalaya about the sacrifice made by the leaders and forefathers for securing the statehood of the state.

As a part of North East Region (re-organisation) Act 1972 Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur became a full-fledged on January 21, 1972.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted people of Meghalaya on the occasion.

In his message PM said, “On their Statehood Day, greetings to my sisters and brothers of Meghalaya. This state is known for its remarkable kindness and spirit of brotherhood. Youngsters from Meghalaya are creative and enterprising. May the state keep scaling new heights of progress in the times to come”.
