Tamil Nadu CM condoles death of four Pudukottai fishermen after alleged attack by Sri Lankan Navy

TRICHY: Condoling the death of four fishermen from Ramanathapuram, who went fishing at Kottaipattinnam of Pudukottai district on Thursday, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami wrote to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking for an investigation through the Indian high commission.
The fishermen were allegedly attacked by the Sri Lankan Navy.
He condemned the attack saying that it was an attempt by Sri Lankan Navy to destroy the livelihood of Tamil Nadu fishermen.
He said he would approach the Centre to ensure such attacks done occur again.
The deceased fishermen have been identified as A Mesiya, V Nagaraj, S Senthil Kumar and N Samson Darwin.
The CM announced a solatium of Rs 10 lakh for the family members from chief minister's relief fund and a government job for an eligible member from each family besides government relief for the damage caused to the boat.
A group of fishermen went to the sea on Monday for fishing in 214 boats. According to the fishermen, one of the boats owned by Arockia Jesu with 4 fishermen was allegedly attacked by Sri Lankan Navy when they were fishing near Katchatheevu.
They said the boat was damaged by the Sri Lankan Navy, who hit the boat with their vessel. Other boats had to return fearing similar attacks and informed the authorities.
Though other fishermen went in search for the four fishermen, who did not return, they were unable to locate them.
All the four bodies washed ashore in Sri Lanka on Thursday.
