“The City University of New York applauds President Biden’s proposal to provide a path to U.S. citizenship to undocumented immigrants, the centerpiece of the new administration’s pursuit of sweeping reform of American immigration policy. We hope that the Congress will now undertake the work needed to codify the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 into law. As a University with a long and proud history of welcoming immigrants, we are especially encouraged by the administration’s plan to provide an expedited path to permanent residence for students who are recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or those who have Temporary Protected Status. Undocumented immigrants are integral members of the CUNY community, and CUNY Citizenship Now!, the university’s free immigration law service program, will ensure that our students have the resources and assistance they need to benefit from President Biden’s needed proposals.”
