D-Link has expanded its range of Covr mesh networking products with the new Covr AX AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 systems.

The $549.95 COVR-X1873 comprises three AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 Covr points said to be capable of providing complete Wi-Fi coverage for a medium to large sized home up to 740 square metres.

Wi-Fi 6 has several advantages over previous standards, including the ability to more data to more devices with lower latency, and a mechanism for making better use of channels in congested areas,

It also includes a capability called Target Wake Time that means devices do not need to keep their radios active 100% of the time. This is particularly useful for battery-powered IoT devices.

Significantly, Wi-Fi 6 requires support for WPA3, making it harder to crack Wi-Fi passwords or to snoop on traffic flowing over open networks.

In addition to Wi-Fi 6, the Covr AX points include a built-in Speedtest client, D-Link’s Smart Steering technology to automatically direct a device to the optimum wireless band, Smart Roaming to keep mobile devices connected to the strongest signal as they move around,

Other features include four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports per node, the option of using Ethernet cabling to connect the nodes, and Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa integration.

For smaller homes – or to extend coverage – Covr AX devices are also available in packs of one (COVR-X1870, $249.95) and two (COVR-X1872, $399.95).
