THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Water-budgeting scheme implemented by Haritha Keralam mission in select block panchayats in the state will be expanded to all local bodies in the next phase. Water budgeting has been launched with a mission to find permanent solutions to resolve water crisis in the state.
Audit of water consumption and availability is underway at Kalpetta block in Wayanad.
The project aims to involve the public to devise ways to conserve water and prevent it from contamination. It mainly considers availability of water during summer. The technical expertise of centre for water resources development and management, engineering colleges and other technical institutions is utilized for water budget. The auditing is done based on guidelines prepared by a committee formed by the state government.
Water resources department and Haritha Keralam mission also undertake revamp of water bodies, rejuvenation of canals.
