Robber cops remanded to judicial custody

Imphal, January 19 2021: The four police personnel attached to Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) who were arrested for robbing some people of jewellery items at Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai along Tiddim Road near Imphal Airport on January 10 have been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.

The accused have been already identified as Tongbram Dhanabir Singh (32), Sapam Thansuwang Singh (32), Nameirakpam Sanjoy Singh (35) and Sagolsem Sandhyarani Devi (42).They were produced before the Court of CJM, Imphal West today.

After hearing both the APP and the defence counsel, the Court remanded all the four accused to judicial custody till February 2 .

One Nahendra Chinnaiya (34) of Moreh Ward No 4, Premnagar lodged a complaint at Singjamei police station in connection with the robbery.

According to the complaint, Nahendra was coming to Imphal Airport in a van on January 10 to see off some of his family members who would attend a marriage ceremony at Chennai when they were robbed of their jewellery items worth Rs 9,60,000 approximately.

As they reached Canchipur near MU Gate, Nahendra noticed that one car (Maruti Alto) with no registration number was following them.

At around 12.40 pm, Nahendra and his family members were forcibly stopped by the occupants of the car at Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai along Tiddim Road and they were taken to an unknown road and robbed of gold necklace, bangles and bracelets, said the complaint.

The APP submitted that the stolen jewellery items as well as the car used in committing the crime have been seized.
