National Jal Jeevan Mission tour to Manipur

Imphal, January 19 2021: A team of 7 members from National Jal Jeevan Mission headed by its director Pradeep Singh visited Manipur from January 10 till 13 .

The team provided technical assistance to realize the goal of 'Har Ghar Jal' under the flagship programme of Jal Jeevan Mission and also identified the issues and challenges faced by the programme implementers in the State and documented the good practices for up scaling and replication in other regions of pan-India.

The team visited Kakching, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Noney districts during the four-day long tour and interacted with the field level officials involved in the implementation of water supply schemes as well as Gram Pradhans, Council head, Village Water Sanitation Committee (VWSC) secretary and members of Gram Panchayats/VWSC who are the custodians of infrastructure created under the programme.

The team also visited the State laboratory, district level laboratories of Thoubal, Imphal East and Imphal West.

On the last day of the visit, Pradeep Singh, briefed the outcome of the site visit to Devesh Deval, Commissioner (PHE), which was attended by Joint Secretary PHE, Chief Engineer PHE and officials/engineers of PHE from all districts.

He met the Chief Secretary and apprised him about the outcome of the Central team visit.

The State aims to provide 2 lakh Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) in 2020-21 out of which the State has already provided connections to 1.36 lakh houses at a rate of 457 household tap connections per day.

In terms of progress Manipur is at fourth position in the country with 31.34 percent of household tap connections since the start of the mission and is a front runner in terms of annual progress.
