Emulate Parrikar, bring down petrol prices in Goa: Oppn to CM

Panaji, Jan 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Opposition in Goa invoked former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar's innovative petrol price management strategy and urged incumbent, Pramod Sawant, to follow his predecessor's footsteps to bring rising petrol prices under check.

"In Goa sitting MLAs get a quota of 300 litres petrol per month. Ministers are entitled to get unlimited supply of petrol, which is why the government is not affected by the travails of the common man," working president of the Goa Forward party Kiran Kandolkar told a press conference on Wednesday.

"The Chief Minister should follow former CM Manohar Parrikar's strategy to reduce the price of petrol which has touched the skies," Kandolkar also said.

In a radical decision taken in 2012, Parrikar had slashed value added tax on the fuel from 20 per cent to 0.1 per cent bringing down the price of petrol in Goa from Rs 66 per litre to Rs 55 per litre.

The reduction of petrol prices was one of the key poll agendas of the Goa Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the 2012 state assembly polls.

Petrol in Goa is currently priced at Rs. 81.32 per litre.
