Dutch international sales and rental group Riwal has taken delivery its first all electric JLG 45ft EC450AJ and 52ft EC520AJ articulated boom lifts.
The EC450AJ and the EC520AJ offer working heights of 15.77 and 17.8 metres respectively with a 250kg unrestricted platform capacity. Weighing 6.5 tonnes, the EC450AJ has 7.62 metres of outreach at an up & over height of 7.3 metres. The EC520AJ comes in just under eight tonnes and offers an outreach of 10.65 metres at an up & over height of 7.3 metres.
Both units have an overall width of 2.35 metres and are equipped with lithium-ion phosphate battery packs that can be opportunity charged, with the onboard charger taking the batteries from zero to 30 percent in less than an hour. The booms are two wheel drive with electric wheel motors on the rear axle, while the front steering axle oscillates. It is said to perform well on rough terrain but is also perfectly at home inside.

The first units will join Riwal’s rental fleets in Denmark and the Netherlands, with other European countries to follow later in the year. Riwal is the JLG dealer for the Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Croatia and Kazakhstan.
Chief executive Pedro Torres said: "Our customers are increasingly demanding 100 percent electric machines to work at height, in order to execute their projects in the most sustainable way. We are proud to be among the first companies to purchase the new JLG machine types. As part of our Lifting Sustainability programme, an increasing share of our fleet investment is in electric machines. In Europe, 65 percent of the fleet is electric. By 2025 our aim is to have 75 percent electric machines in our European rental fleet."
JLG’s European region general manager Karel Huijser added: “We are pleased to see Riwal taking delivery of its first EC electric construction boom lifts. As a company we encourage our partners to embark on the road to electrification, including setting goals to further electrify fleets and emitting less emissions and noise. These EC booms are among the first for JLG to be delivered into the Europe, Africa and Middle East region, and we are very excited about their field operation and performance.”
