On Tuesday, the DC chaired a meeting of the committee formed to prevent bird flu. Before this, Dr Jasbir Singh of the animal husbandry department submitted in his report that: “The district’s 114 layer farms have 27.66 lakh birds, while 133 broiler farms have 10.54 lakh birds. The hatcheries—101are in Thanesar, 84 in Pehowa, 33 in Ladwa, and 31 in Shahabad—keep 48,000 birds.”
Government laboratories in Sonipat, Bhopal, and Jalandhar investigate bird flu, also called avian influenza or H5N8. The Kurukshetra DC has told the subdivisional magistrates to meet the poultry farmers and stay in touch with them on WhatsApp.
