Govt introduces new feature in Co-WIN for better coverage of beneficiaries per session

NEW DELHI: To ensure better coverage of beneficiaries per session and full utilization of resources, the government has introduced a new feature in Co-WIN software that will allow pre-registered beneficiaries to be added in a session over and above the scheduled ones, health ministry said on Wednesday.
Other enhancements on the software application – that forms the back bone for implementation and monitoring of the vaccination drive against Covid-19 – include an option for giving a provisional certificate to the recipient after first dose and final certificate after second dose. Besides, a person’s name can also be searched in the database by mobile number, additional health secretary Manohar Agnani said.
TOI had earlier reported that new functions have been introduced in Co-WIN to allow vaccination of those who are beneficiaries but not scheduled for a shot so that inoculation capacity does not go unutilised.
“To allow maximum possible number of beneficiaries per session and have better coverage, enhancement in Co-WIN software has been made. Pre-registered beneficiary in the database can be added to the session as additional beneficiary over and above the scheduled number of beneficiaries,” Agnani said.
The Centre has also asked district magistrates and district immunization officers to hold daily review meetings to get a feedback of session planning and stock availabilities. Besides, district authorities have also been advised to hold regular training and sensitization of stakeholders about latest instructions and refinement in software.
Some of the initial hiccups faced by session sites in various states were because personnel handling the software at the ground level were not much conversant with the application, leading to delay in uploading of information during the first few days, officials said.
A total of 7,86,842 beneficiaries were vaccinated at 14,119 session sites during the first five days since the rollout of the vaccination drive on January 16. On Wednesday, 1,12,007 beneficiaries received the vaccine, whereas 82 new adverse events following immunization were reported till evening.
