HYDERABAD: The Congress on Tuesday said the voters of Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly segment, two Graduate MLC seats and seven urban local bodies going to polls soon, will teach a befitting lesson to the TRS and BJP governments for refusing to buy the agriculture produce and offer minimum support price respectively to the farmers.
“While the TRS government in the state is running away from its responsibility of procuring agricultural produce, the BJP government at the Centre is not offering minimum support price to the farmers,” said Telangana Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy.
“As if this is not enough, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government is breaking the back of middleclass sections by going on increasing the prices of petrol and diesel despite the fact that the crude oil prices in the international market have come down drastically,” Uttam said.
The Rs 7500 crore losses the state government says it incurred due to procurement of agricultural produce, is a small amount compared to the Rs 10 lakh crore cumulative state budget of the last seven years, Uttam said.
“The Congress will not stop its agitational programmes until the KCR-government procures last grain of agriculture produce from the farmers in the State and the BJP government at the centre concedes to the demands of striking farmers in Delhi,” Uttam said.
TPCC working president A Revanth Reddy alleged that Modi-government has mortgaged to few corporates the interests of 80 crore farmers and others who are directly and indirectly depended on agriculture sector for livelihood.
CLP leader Bhatt Vikramarka said chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led TRS government has announced that it will shut down procurement centres leaving the farmers to mercy of private traders at the market yards in Telangana. “CM KCR who supported the farmers bharat bandh, made a U-turn after meeting Pm Modi in Delhi. People are watching,” he said.
