After a short scoring slump, Kenneth Lofton Jr. got back to his normal production in Louisiana Tech’s latest win.

The freshman forward from Port Arthur posted his third double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and grabbing a career-high 13 boards during a blowout of UTSA last weekend. Lofton, who’s been named as Conference USA’s Freshman of the Week three times, hadn’t reached double figures scoring in his previous four games.

Lofton will look to carry over the newfound momentum Friday against UTEP. Here’s how a few other local college hoopers are faring as of late:

Local Aggies

Nederland native Hayden Hefner made his third straight start for Texas A&M against Missouri last weekend, but still hasn’t seen big minutes for the Aggies.

Despite starting, the freshman guard only played six minutes and didn’t attempt a shot in Texas A&M’s recent loss to the 17th-ranked Tigers. Hefner hasn’t scored in his last four games overall.

On the women’s side, Aggies guard and Legacy Christian grad Alexis Morris hasn’t played since Jan. 3 against Florida.

Lamar, Austin Peay postpone games

A few local players had their schedules changed because of coronavirus complications. Both Lamar and Austin Peay postponed multiple games due to positive tests within the programs.

Former Beaumont United star Kasen Harrison has started each of Lamar’s last five games, and was coming off a 14-point performance against Sam Houston last Wednesday before Lamar announced the rescheduling.

Silsbee native and Austin Peay sophomore Jordyn Adams had just come back from a hip injury prior to the postponements. Austin Peay hasn’t played a game since Jan. 9.

Bush coming off bench

Another Silsbee graduate, Braelon Bush, has thrived in multiple roles for McNeese this season. Recently, he’s coming off the Cowboys’ bench to help provide some instant offense.

Bush scored nine points in just eight minutes of action last weekend in a loss to New Orleans. He’s made seven starts for McNeese this season, and will be back on the court Wednesday against Southeastern Louisiana.
