PATNA: The state commercial taxes department (CTD) on Monday claimed to have unearthed a bogus firm allegedly indulged in tax evasion to the tune of Rs 27.2 crore. Senior CTD officials said the firm with registered address at Bhagwat Nagar in Patna had generated e-way bills worth about Rs 173 crore.
The CTD also said the bogus firm supported tax evasion of dealers of other states, including Punjab and Delhi dealing in iron and steel, copper, plastic scraps, clothes, parts and motor vehicle accessories among others.
“An inspection was conducted on January 15 to trace the business premise of the firm. Many facts and figures proved that the firm exited only on paper and was involved in bill trading by obtaining registration under Goods and Services Tax Act. 2017 by means of fraud, wilful misstatement or suppression of facts with intent to evade tax,” a senior CTD official said.
