Senior journalist Shaida no more, demise widely condoled

Srinagar, Jan 19 (UNI) Senior journalist Ghulam Nabi Shaida, printer, publisher and editor of a local Urdu Daily “ Wadi Ki Awaz” died here after a prolonged illness.
Jammu and Kashmir Press Association (JKPA), Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) and several political, social and media organistions have condoled the demise of Shaida who breathed his last at his house in Srinagar in the wee hours today.

He was above 70 and is survived by a daughter. His wife had died in 2015.
According to reports, Mr Shaida breathed his last at his Srinagar residence in the wee hours today. He was not keeping well for the past several years.
He was laid to rest in the ancestral graveyard at village Goripora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.

The Executive Members of JKPA held an emergency meeting, chaired by Ghulam Hassan Kaloo, to condole the death.
The members dwelt at length on the role and contribution of late Shaida in keeping the flag of journalism fluttering, especially during the difficult period of the history of Kashmir.
He was a man of principles and upheld the objectivity and ethics of journalism and his passing away has left a void difficult to be filled.
The members prayed for the eternal peace of his soul and expressed complete solidarity with members of the bereaved families.
The KEG offered condolences on the demise of Shaida and described him an upright person who would always be unbiased in his work and would always strive for the betterment of media institutions in Kashmir.
In a statement a spokesman for the KEG said Shaida will be remembered for his work and his humble attitude. KEG stands with the family of the deceased editor in this hour of grief,” the Guild said.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also expresses profound grief over his demise. ''He was a thorough professional and upright journalist who's contribution would always be remembered. May allah grant him Jannah and give strength to his family'', a spokesman for the PDP said.
Apni Party (AP) Media Advisor Farooq Andrabi also expressed deep shock and grief.
In a statement issued here, Andrabi said, “Ghulam Nabi Shaida was one of the sincere journalists that the valley has seen lately. The services he rendered in the field of journalism are exceptional and highly commendable. He was a man of principles and kindness. His untimely demise has created a deep hollow in the community of journalists that is hard to fill.”
He expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul. “I on behalf of the Party leadership pray to Allah Almighty bless the departed soul with peace and give patience to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss,” Andrabi observed.
