LUCKNOW: The UP BJP leadership convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday evening to take stock of preparation for various programmes scheduled to be attended by party national president JP Nadda who will be in the state capital on Thursday and Friday.
Party sources said that UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh and general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal called all senior party functionaries including all vice-president and state general secretaries to the party’s state headquarters after the programme of Nadda got confirmed.
Nadda is scheduled to meet cabinet ministers besides MPs, MLAs and party office bearers of the Awadh and Kanpur region. The BJP chief is also scheduled to meet social media volunteers who have been deputed by the party in significantly large numbers to make deeper political inroads through the use of social media. Nadda is also scheduled to address a convention of prominent citizens in Lucknow.
Nadda’s visit comes close on the heels of PM Narendra Modi’s trusted bureaucrat Arvind Sharma joining the BJP and getting nominated to the upper house of the UP assembly. Sharma’s nomination to the legislative council had set the speculation mills working overtime about his possible induction in the state government.
The BJP boss is also expected to take an exhaustive feedback about the party’s preparedness for the panchayat elections which are seen as a semi-final before the high stake assembly elections due next year. Party sources said that the Nadda is also scheduled to meet a host of district presidents in a bid to reach out to grass root party functionaries.
