TUTICORIN: Information and publicity minister Kadambur C Raju said that chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had gone to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in person and seek compensation for the farmers who have been affected by the recent unseasonal rains. The minister made this statement while addressing farmers at a government event in Achankulam village near Kovilpatti on Tuesday.
The minister said that the CM has taken the effort as he as a farmer understands their plight. Raju reiterated the same in an interaction with reporters at Tuticorin in the evening. “We are hopeful that the centre will help,” he added. He was responding to a question on farmers of the district seeking adequate compensation over the heavy losses they had incurred due to the unseasonal rains last week.
Raju said that the damage caused by the rains have been taken to the notice of the CM by him and minister for revenue and disaster management R B Udhayakumar. "Since the water started receding we started the assessment of damage with officials from the revenue and agriculture departments two days ago. On completion of assessment compensation will be disbursed to farmers,” he added.
