Palwal, Faridabad see 70% and 76% turnout

Gurgaon: The vaccination drive for healthcare workers in Gurgaon’s neighbouring districts, including Palwal, Faridabad and Nuh was carried out on Monday. According to the data collected, Palwal saw around 70% recipients and Faridabad around 76%. While Nuh has set a target of vaccinating 5,800 people in the entire drive, only 961 turned up for the shot on Monday.
Palwal set a target to vaccinate 383 of its healthcare workers at seven session sites on Monday. However, only 270 turned up to get the vaccine shot. Covaxin was given at three out of seven centres in Palwal. Of the 270 recipients, 190 received the Covaxin shot.
Dr Brahmdeep Sandhu, chief medical officer of Palwal health department, said, “If we compare the turnout for Covishield and Covaxin, there is not much difference. We need to motivate people and as the drive continues, it would remove apprehensions of the people. People are apprehensive about getting the shot but the good part is that we are not pestering people to come for vaccination. We are taking people’s consent and also counselling them.”
In Faridabad, 1,349 people got vaccinated on Monday at 19 centres across the district. Faridabad, however, had set a target of vaccinating 1,787 people on Monday. The lowest turnout in Faridabad was reported at the Civil Hospital session site where only 19 people turned up.
Dr Randeep Singh Poonia, chief medical officer of Faridabad said that since they were late in setting up the centres, so, the numbers were less compared to the first day of the drive. “We are expecting to achieve 100% target soon. We started vaccination in the morning with 16 centres only but decided to add three more centres in the afternoon. The three additional centres were made functional by 3pm, so we could vaccinate only 1,349 people on Monday. However, we are hopeful to get 100% coverage in the subsequent days,” he said.
A total of 23 centres were set up across Nuh on Monday where only 961 recipients turned up for vaccination. In Nuh, the lowest turnout was recorded at Nuh community health centre (CHC) where only nine people turned up.
“We have a target of vaccinating 5,800 people in the district. We didn’t fix targets for a single day and our healthcare workers are getting vaccinated as per their duty schedule. The healthcare workers will be vaccinated whenever they come during the vaccination hours. We will hopefully achieve our target in the next two weeks,” said Dr Surender Yadav, chief medical officer of Nuh.
