BENGALURU: Education Minister S Suresh Kumar on Tuesday kicked off the government's ambitious Jan Sevak (people’s servant) programme – through which citizens can demand government services at their doorsteps by paying a service charge.
The minister visited senior citizen Nagarathnamma's house in Rajajinagar and witnessed delivery of service. Another senior citizen Varalakshmi of Indiranagar was another recipient of the doorstep service. Both had applied for correction in their Aadhaar cards, but could not visit Aadhaar centres due to age-related health issues.
The government has introduced the Jan Sevak service at Dasarahalli, Mahadevapura, Bommanahalli, Yeshvantpur, Rajajinagar and Bengaluru South. Suresh Kumar requested Bengaluru's citizens to make use of the service and make it a success.
Citizens will pay a service charge of Rs 115 in addition to the fee applicable for the service sought at the department concerned. There is no cost to the government as services are delivered at the citizens’ doorstep by a private service provider, the minister said.
Citizens will have to call a toll-free number, which will send a One Time Password. The delivery personnel will visit the house/place at an appointed time, verify the OTP, and collect copies of applications and supporting documents. They will later apply for the service at the department concerned.
The government will offer 55 services under the programme, including BBMP khata transfer, Ayushman Bharat-Arogya Karnataka (AB-ARK) cards, revenue, police and food and civil supplies services, and corrections in Aadhaar card.
