BENGALURU: A job fair for LGBTQA+ community members will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday to help them find employment in cafes, restaurants, beauty parlours and other small business establishments in the city.
Twenty-three candidates are expected to attend the event that will begin at 10am at The Courtyard on Double Road. The fair, which will have 15 small-time players looking for recruits, is being organised by engineering firm, Altran and Solidarity Foundation, an NGO.
Shubha Chacko, executive director of the NGO, said the fair is an opportunity for companies to increase diversity among their employees and positively impact the lives of sexual and gender minorities in the city.
The event will focus on finding talents among members of the LGBTQA community who are often not English-speaking and are trying to find a job to support their lives. “Many may not possess certificates, but have work experience in various fields, mainly in culinary and cosmetic industries. It is always a struggle when members of the community look to find employment on their own. The job fair will provide them a perfect platform,” she added.
