NAVI MUMBAI: Empty chairs were seen at the waiting lobbies of a couple of vaccination centres in the NMMC area during the initial hours of the vaccination drive on Tuesday. Later, shortlisted healthcare workers started turning up steadily. ASHA workers were summoned to get themselves vaccinated in the absence of people shortlisted from other healthcare departments.
The coronavirus vaccination drive for the second time after two-days break began at 10am on Tuesday after a delay of nearly an hour. A total of 400 health workers are scheduled to be vaccinated during the day on Tuesday in the four centers located at Vashi FRU, Airoli civic hospital, Apollo Hospital at Belapur and DY Patil Hospital at Nerul. Each centre will vaccinate at least 100 people. The drive will continue on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. “The drive is going on smoothly and the numbers will be more than that of the first day of the vaccination campaign,” said NMMC commissioner Abhijit Bangar.
In PCMC areas, two vaccination centres were activated at MGM Hospital at Kamothe and G D Pol Foundation at Kharghar. By 3pm, 60 people got vaccinated and many are in the waiting. “We have set a target of vaccinating 200 people from both the centres,” said PCMC commissioner Sudhakar Deshmukh, who just recovered from corona and joined the forces on Tuesday. As many as 192 health workers were vaccinated on Saturday in the PCMC area.
