The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior Indian Railway Engineering Service (IRES) official for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 crore. In addition, the investigating agency has also conducted raids on 20 locations across the country.
Officials said that the CBI has arrested Mahendra Singh Chauhan, a 1985 batch IRES officer, red-handed taking bribe money. The officials have recovered the bribe amount.
Chauhan is accused of helping in awarding contracts for the projects of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). Chauhan was posted at the NFR headquarters in Maligaon, Assam. The CBI has raided 20 locations in the country including Delhi, Assam, and Uttarakhand.
