Opening Bell

Indian equities have begun the new trading week on a subdued note, despite futures pointing to a gap down opening.

The S&P BSE Sensex opened 26 points higher at 49,061 while the NSE Nifty 50 index opened 20 points higher at 14,453.

All sectoral indices too have opened little changed in today's session. The FMCG index is up 0.3%, as is the PSU Bank index. The Auto and Pharma indices have opened marginally lower while others are flat.

Broader markets too have opened on a tepid note. The Nifty Midcap index is up 0.1% while the Smallcap index is up 0.2% at the start of trade.

A Subdued Start Likely

Good Morning!

Indian equities managed to eke out a weekly gain despite falling the most in a month on Friday. That was the 11th straight weekly gain for the S&P BSE Sensex.

Futures, however, are indicating a weak start to the new trading week. The Singapore-traded SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50 Index’s performance in India, fell 0.3% to 14,421 as on 8:05 a.m. on Monday.

HDFC Bank, L&T Finance, Shoppers Stop and Apollo Pipes, among others, may react to their quarterly earnings reported after market hours on Friday and over the weekend.

Non-Nifty 50 companies that will announce results today are IndiaMart InterMesh, IRB Infra, Mindtree, Rallis India, Snowman Logistics and Indiabulls Real Estate.

Asian equities are trading lower this morning after a weak closing on Friday's Wall Street session. South Korean benchmarks are seeing the bulk of the losses.

Futures on the Dow Jones are trading 50 points lower. The index fell 0.6% on Friday.

West Texas Intermediate crude fell 0.5% to $52.08 per barrel, while gold fell 1% to $1,812.8/Oz.
