GURUGRAM: Residents living in more than 15 housing societies in new sectors have come together to solve the garbage woes and vowed to adopt sustainable waste management practices. The residents of Sare Homes in Sector 92, along with the United Association of New Gurugram, started a campaign — Swachh New Gurugram — under its ‘community connect 1.0’ programme on Sunday which was launched by Badshapur MLA Rakesh Daultabad and Dheeraj Kumar, joint commissioner for Swachh Bharat Mission
The residents said that the purpose of this campaign is to keep the surroundings clean and motivate others to adopt solid waste management by engaging various RWAs and locals in new sectors.
Praveen Malik, president of Sare Homes residents’ welfare association said, “The whole idea is to bring the community together to spread the message of cleanliness. Waste management is the major cause of concern among the residents. Through this campaign, we would engage RWAs and locals in achieving compliance of solid waste management and would start an awareness drive on how to segregate watse and adopt the techniques available for composting waste.”
Representatives of several housing societies, including Sare Homes, DLF New Town Heights, Regal Garden, DLF Ultima, DLF Sky Court, Spaze Privy, Vatika India Next, Orris Floreal, Raheja Navodaya, Microtek Greenburg, Antriksh Heights, NBCC Heights, Tulip Petals, Mapsko Casabella, Vipul Lavanya and Ramsons Kshitij, along with locals from Wazirpur, Hayatpur, Dhorka, among others, were present at the campaign launch.
Ashok Malik, president of UANG and residents of DLF New Town Heights said, “Tonnes of garbage is generated in the city with no proper disposal. All this ends up at the landfill site that causes pollution. Waste segregation is the need of the hour and individual efforts are being required in keeping our surroundings clean. Also we would encourage people to minimise the use of plastic.”
Besides, a 60-foot-high Tricolour was unfurled at the society and a blood donation camp was also organised on the occasion.
