Users of UPI, Rupay cards can buy health cover digitally

MUMBAI: Rupay cardholders and those with UPI (unified payment interface) registrations will be eligible to buy health insurance for cancer and heart ailments at affordable rates.
The National Payments Corporation of India has tied up Universal Sompo General Insurance to provide this specialised cover to all its users.
The health policy provides special coverage for cancer and heart-related ailments along with features like cashless hospitalization in over 5,000 hospitals across India and tax benefits. The cover can be purchased digitally.
“The recent pandemic has brought much-needed awareness among people for health insurance. I am sure with the help of specially designed coverage offered by Universal Sompo to RuPay cardholders, they would get maximum advantage by securing themselves against Cancer and Heart ailments at affordable premiums” said Dilip Asbe, MD & CEO, NPCI.
According to Sharad Mathur, CEO, Universal Sompo General Insurance the partnership was aimed at upholding the national agenda of providing health insurance for all. He added that the buying process was entirely digital and seamless.
Universal Sompo is a five-way joint venture between Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Karnataka Bank Ltd, Dabur Investment Corporation and Japan’s leading insurer Sompo.
