Medak: The e-EPIC (electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card) programme will be formally launched on January 25, marking the occasion of National Voters’ Day. Voters can view and print the digital voter card on their registered mobile. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Shashank Goel said the Election Commission of India (ECI) initiated the programme for the convenience of voters who need not visit service centres to collect their EPIC cards any more.

Speaking to media persons after a meeting with revenue divisional officers (RDOs) and Tahsildars at the District Collectorate here on Monday, the CEO appreciated the efforts of the revenue staff who took up voter enrolment, received objections and suggestions, made necessary modifications and released the final list of voters on January 15. On this occasion, he enquired about the field experiences of the revenue officers during voter enrolment and modification of electoral rolls in Narsapur and Medak constituencies.

The Tahsildars suggested that necessary provisions be made in the voter enrolment software to prevent duplication during the local body elections and removal of the names of those who migrated to other areas, which were posing problems. It was suggested that a cut-off date should be fixed in view of large number of applications being submitted seeking to amend the age of the voters. They also brought other issues to the attention of the Chief Electoral Officer who assured to take into consideration of their suggestions.

Shashank Goel advised the officials to involve the elected representatives and non-governmental organisations during the National Voters’ Day celebrations as well as give a wide publicity to encourage registration of new voters. He also explained the importance of voting and said that voters should be made aware that they must exercise their right to vote during elections.
