Non-profit group sues Apple, wants Telegram removed from App store

Washington, Jan 18 (UNI) A Washington-based non-profit organisation has filed a lawsuit against Apple, urging it to delete the Telegram messenger from its App Store.
Coalition for a Safer Web, which calls for the removal of extremist content from the social media, on Sunday filed the lawsuit, demanding that Apple handle Telegram the same way it treated Parler, another social networking site, which was popular with supporters of incumbent US President Donald Trump.
Parler was removed from the App Store for failing to check threats of violence related to the January 6 Capitol riots.
Sputnik quoted the lawsuit saying that Telegram is being used for intimidation tactics by extremists.
''This is a lawsuit seeking damages and injunctive relief against Defendant Apple Inc, for allowing Telegram to be made available through Apple's App Store, despite Apple's knowledge that Telegram is being used to intimidate, threaten and coerce members of the public,'' it added.
According to the organisation, Telegram has served as a platform for anti-Semitic and anti-African American content, since its launch in 2013.
