Ramesh Pokhriyal urges students to go for more research, inventions

Hamirpur (HP), Jan 18 (UNI) Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Monday urged the students' community to go in for more research and inventions as much more had been provided in the New Educational policy-2020 of the central government.

While delivering his address at the 11th convocation of the NIT, Hamirpur through online mode , he said that the new education policy was prepared after long discussions and talks so that there was no need for such a policy in the coming 50 years. He said that the new education policy was the brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had made it possible to make it practicable.

Mr Pokhriyal said that the situation was conducive for the youth and the ground was open. Now they had to come forward and work accordingly to make India a supreme power in every respect.

Quoting the works done by great Indian saints and philosophers, he said,'India was known as the 'Vishva Guru' and we had to maintain this profile.'

He said that there was no need to go abroad for getting education as 1,000 foreign students got higher education in India last year and 50,000 more had enrolled them for getting different types of education.

The Education Minister said that despite constraints due to COVID-19, the online education system proved successful and credit for this goes to the Indian scientists and researchers who had made the tiny tots to work on computers and mobiles.

He said that various changes had been made in the old educational policy of the country and the new policy was people oriented, students oriented and even farmers oriented.

The minister said that 'we had to work on the theory of Vasudevam Kutumbkam and it was India and its people that could make it possible.'

He said that if a student got admission in the NIT and had to leave it after one year he/she would be given a certificate, after two years a diploma and after three years a degree. He/she could return to the same place from where he/she had left the institution if he wanted to continue after he was able to do that.

The Education minister gave best wishes to those who got degrees in today's function and said that they should work 24x7 to bring them at the top of the world and that was not possible without hard work and missionary zeal.

Union Minister of state for Finance and Corporate affairs Anurag Thakur who was present in the function at NIT, Hamirpur in his address said that the local NIT had done a lot for the betterment of the society and its students had won name and fame at the national and international level.

He said that India was known for its youngsters and they had been doing marvelous in every sphere of life. The NIT of Hamirpur was also one the main institutions of India that had come to the ages and had performed according to the wishes of the people.

The Director of the NIT, Dr Lalit Awasthi said that it was a matter of pride that despite COVID-19 pandemic, the function was going to be held in Online mode.

He said that the institution had been doing various types of research as per the central government norms and for that, it had won appreciation from the government.

On this occasion, as many as 1026 students were given degrees right from Batch to PhD level and students and their parents watched the function through online webcasting.
