Congress called 12 hrs Tripura bandh protest attack on PCC chief

Agartala, Jan 17 (UNI) Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) called for dawn to dusk general strike tomorrow protesting against a deadly attack on state Congress Chief Pijush Kanti Biswas today at Bishalgarh of Sepahijala district, deteriorating law and order and overall failure of the state government.
His vehicle was damaged completely and six persons including Biswas have received serious injuries. The incident sparked off a serious reaction in the political circle and opposition parties accused the BJP-IPFT government of deteriorating law and order in the state.
However, police said an investigation has been launched based on the complaint lodged by Biswas against some unknown miscreants of BJP.
According to the report, the attack on Biswas was carried out by unruly cadres with the direct involvement of BJP Yuva Morcha President Nabadal Banik over the dominance of the party in the district.
“The ruling BJP has been riddled with factional squabbles after losing the ground due to its misrule and the attack on Congress president was to show the strength of Nabadal Banik in Bishalgarh. Unfortunately, despite knowing the facts and the plan of action police did not take any measure to avert it. Rather they prevented our president from reaching the destination for a pre-scheduled program,” alleged TPCC Vice President Tapas Dey.
He further stated due to internal conflict in BJP and large scale dissidence against Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, the functioning of administration becomes zero, all development has been stopped and the entire state has come under the rule of mafias. The police have become helpless because of CM’s patronise to the criminals and mafias.
“Today’s incident also happened in the presence of police but armed men were not daring to stop them. The miscreants damaged the vehicles on the road in broad daylight and Biswas and the party leaders who went there for an organisational programme have been attacked in presence of police,” Dey added.
To protest against the attack on TPCC president, deteriorating law and order, increasing unemployment and failure of the state government to comply with their poll promises, Congress called a 12 –hrs general strike across Tripura and urged people to take part in the agitation and to force the government to act as per law, he mentioned.
