Utah reports 1,585 new cases of COVID-19, eight more deaths

Seven men and one woman have died from the disease since Saturday.

The Utah Department of Health reported 1,585 new cases of COVID-19 and eight deaths on Sunday, but hospitalizations were down, as was the number of people currently in intensive care units.
Vaccinations reported in past day/total vaccinations • 4,661 / 157,170.
Cases reported in past day • 1,585.
Deaths reported in past day • 8.
The deaths reported Sunday are • Seven of the eight deaths are men. There were three deaths in Utah County (two men, 65-84; one man, 65-84), two in Washington County (one man, 65-84; one man, older than 85), and one each in Carbon County (man, 65-84), Millard County (man, 65-84), and Iron County (woman, 65-84). All of the men were hospitalized at the time of death, while the women was in a long-term care facility.

Hospitalizations reported in past day • 557. That’s down 24 from Saturday. Of those currently hospitalized, 226 are in intensive care units — five less than on Saturday.
Tests reported in past day • 7,199.
Percentage of positive tests • 22%. This is lower than the seven-day average of 22.6%.
Totals to date • 323,837 cases; 1,493 deaths; 12,518 hospitalizations; 1,902,260 tests.
