The world's largest Covid vaccination drive was rolled in the country on Saturday (16th January). Accordingly, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami launched the COVID-19 vaccination drive at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai on Saturday. The healthcare workers were given the shot in the presence of deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.

Following this, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan inspected the vaccination drive in Trichy district. During the inspection, he inoculated himself with the Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin. Following which, 14 health workers were administered with COVAXIN and 10 others opted for COVISHIELD.

Speaking to the reporters after vaccination, Radhakrishnan said, he took the vaccine shot to create awareness among the public and to encourage the frontline warriors to take up the Covid vaccine as a precautionary measure.

Further he praised the doctors and nurses who came forward to take the first jab, yesterday.
