Food delivery execs hit by spiked petrol rates

Swiggy, Zomato employees have been getting Rs 15 for every order; they have to spend much of the total towards petrol , leaving them with no profits or losses
Swiggy and Zomato delivery executives are frustrated after the companies reduced the cut they get against every order. This, coupled with the constant pet- rol price hike, has left them with a noprofit-no-loss scenario. Moreover, they have not been getting an additional petrol allowance, which they have now asked their regional heads to dole out. The executives are decrying the plight as many of them found themselves bound to the job with no other options available.
The petrol price in Pune was Rs 91.05 per litre on Saturday. In the last 10 days, the price has been fluctuating between Rs 90.57 and Rs 91.93. The petrol earlier ranged around Rs 80-85 before the sudden spike.

Another delivery executive from Swiggy, Devendra Manik, added, “Earlier, we would get Rs 35 on every order. We did not have to struggle a lot with our finances. But how much will a person manage with Rs 15? We have to spend 40 minutes for every order and now we cannot earn much as a large chunk of our money goes towards petrol.”
Naresh Waghire started working forZomato after the lockdown. He met with a rude shock upon discovering the miniscule amount he would get behind every delivery. “I barely make Rs 200 a day of which I have to spend Rs 60 on petrol. The situation is bad and I am planning to switch to Dunzo which offers better incentives,” he said.
